Brainspotting
Where You Look Affects How You Feel
If you’ve ever found yourself "stuck" in a cycle of anxiety, trauma, or repetitive patterns despite talking about them for years, you’re not alone. Sometimes, the roots of our challenges aren't stored in the parts of the brain responsible for language; they are buried deep in the subcortical brain—the area responsible for survival, emotion, and memory.

This is where Brainspotting comes in.
What Exactly Is Brainspotting?
Developed by Dr. David Grand, Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing, and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional and physical pain.

The guiding motto of this therapy is simple but profound:

"Where you look affects how you feel."

By using your field of vision to find "spots" in your brain where you hold stress or trauma, we can bypass the "thinking" brain and get straight to the "healing" brain.
How Does It Work?
Have you ever noticed that when you’re talking about something difficult, your eyes naturally drift to a specific point in the room? That isn't accidental. In a Brainspotting session, we work together to find those specific eye positions (the "Brainspots") that trigger a physical or emotional response.
-
The Setup: We use a pointer to slowly scan your field of vision.
-
The Connection: When we find a Brainspot, it acts as a "trapdoor," allowing us to access deeply stored experiences that talk therapy alone might not reach.
-
The Processing: While focused on that spot, you allow your brain to self-regulate and process the information in a safe, supported environment.
Is Brainspotting Right for You?
Brainspotting is incredibly versatile. It isn’t just for major trauma; it’s a highly effective tool for anyone looking to expand their emotional resilience or break through a plateau. It is frequently used for:
-
Trauma and PTSD
-
Anxiety and Panic Attacks
-
Depression
-
Chronic Pain
-
Performance Anxiety (for athletes or artists)
-
Creative Blocks
What to Expect in a Session
Unlike some forms of therapy that require you to recount every detail of a painful memory, Brainspotting allows your brain to do the heavy lifting. You don't even have to talk if you don't want to.
It is a deeply compassionate, "bottom-up" approach to healing. Instead of trying to think your way out of a problem, you are giving your nervous system the space to untangle itself.
